We caught up with BJ to hear his thoughts on the season, his go-to gear, and the moments that make hunting truly unforgettable.

What’s one thing you’re most excited about this hunting season?

The Roar is upon us now, that’s the most exciting thing! Especially those cooler, crisp mornings.

Best meal you’ve had after a hunt?

Roasted venison backstrap stuffed with feta cheese, olives, and plum sauce wrapped in bacon.

Best hunt-related advice you’ve ever received?

Just do more glassing, be patient, and study your area and the animals. Most animals we hunt are creatures of habit. Learn their habits and it will all line up.

Funniest or best moment from past Roar hunts?

Having a grown man reduced to tears after taking his stag. He was so emotional because his grandmother, who had passed the year before, had paid for his hunt with us.

If you could hunt anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Probably hunting Tahr down the West Coast. It’s a great feeling being in those mountains. We’re very fortunate to have that amazing adventure right here in NZ.

What’s your go-to piece of Hunters Element gear for the Roar and why?
